Brand Standards Basics

Rocky Mountain College has specific standards that must be adhered to when using the official College logo. All College publications that use the RMC logo must be submitted to Erica Wall (erica.wall@rocky.edu / 406.657.1125) for approval (for both content and design) before printing and distribution. These standards are extremely important in helping the College present a clear and consistent message to all of the College constituencies.

The following is a basic outline of brand standards that must be followed for all College publications that use the logo:

All publications that use an RMC logo must be submitted to the Brand Management Team for approval.
Submit publications/documents to the Brand Management Team a minimum of three (3) days before you need it.
The logo must not be changed in proportion. The logo may be made bigger or smaller than the downloaded image, but the proportions must remain the same.
Appropriate fonts must be used at all times. RMC uses Times New Roman for all letters and documents. Verlag, Gotham, and MrsEavesItalic are the design fonts that are used on publications (i.e. posters, brochures, forms, etc.). Of these fonts, Verlag is the most common design font.
Avoid the use of bold and italic fonts in sentences and text. Bold font is considered appropriate for titles and headers, but should not be used in main text – even for dates, times, and locations. Italics should not be used in titles/headers or text – unless used for the title of a book, movie, play, etc. The underlining of text and/or headers is not allowed.
The traditional placing of the logo is in the upper right-hand corner of publications, though it can also be placed in the upper left-hand corner. Avoid placing the logo in other locations throughout the publication/document. Exceptions may be made, but only by the Brand Management Team when the publication is submitted for approval.
Avoid using personal photos in publications. If you need photos taken for a publication, contact Dave Shumway, staff photographer, at dave.shumway@rocky.edu or 406.657.1164 to schedule a time for photos to be taken.
For documents, please use the provided templates for either the letterhead or black and white logo in order to use the correct margins.
The "RMC Seal" is also known as the "President's Seal" and can only be used by the president's office.
The shield logo and the athletics logos may not be used together in publications.
Departments may not create their logos – if you are interested in creating a logo that features any part of the approved RMC logos, you must contact Dave Shumway (dave.shumway@rocky.edu / 406.657.1164).
Refrain from referring to dates that are more than three (3) years old, unless referenced as part of a list of accomplishments. For example, do not used "RMC – Ranked in the Top 10 Best Value Colleges by US News & World Report in 2009." However, "RMC – Ranked in the Top 10 Best Value Colleges by US News & Report in 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2009" is acceptable.
Please use the proper names for all buildings – i.e. "Technology Hall" instead of "Tech Hall."
The College uses what is known as the "serial" or "Oxford" comma – the comma that is placed before "and" in a series of three or more. For example: "The RMC football, basketball, and soccer teams competed in national tournaments."
As a rule, simpler is better.

This logo should be used whenever possible. Use this version when final size is 3 inches wide or larger allowing for the established date of 1878 to be easily read.
