Travis is a doctoral candidate working towards his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction in Music Education at Kansas State University.
He recently accepted the position of Director of Bands at Rocky Mountain College, where he will direct the concert band, jazz band, pep bands, and teach courses in music education and theater.
While at Kansas State, Travis served as the graduate conducting assistant for the K-State orchestras, director of the Lab A jazz ensemble, and taught courses in music education and music integration for elementary education majors. His dissertation focuses on the development of teacher identity through the focus of their personal music experiences, and the critical examination of access for all, within music education.
His other research interests include arts-based research methods, social justice, identity, LGBTQ issues in education, teacher education, and cultural diversity in education. Prior to his time at Kansas State Travis served as a public-school music teacher for 15 years throughout the state of Kansas. Teaching in the areas of band, orchestra, jazz, and theater. Travis has also served the state of Kansas (KMEA) music association at various levels, served as a state-wide judge, and clinician for various honor ensembles. Travis is a member of phi beta mu (national band director fraternity), SMTE, and KMEA.
