Chemistry
A background in chemistry is an essential component of a liberal arts education. At Rocky Mountain College, we take an interdisciplinary approach to teaching chemistry that draws not only from the sciences, but also from the arts and the humanities.
The small class sizes at Rocky Mountain College provide our students with many advantages not possible in the chemistry programs at larger institutions. Tenure-track faculty teach all of our chemistry courses, including the laboratories. This makes personal interactions between the professors and students commonplace. Professors also act as advisors and mentors for many of the students in their classes.
Our courses are designed to help students develop their creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills, while addressing some of the ethical considerations of chemistry in the world today. This teaching approach is designed to ignite our students' interest in chemistry by showing them both the importance and the relevance that chemistry has in their lives.
The students in all of our chemistry classes receive hands-on training using a variety of modern analytical instrumentation; most of this type of instrumentation is rarely encountered by undergraduate students at larger colleges and universities. In addition, many of our faculty members are actively involved in research in their respective areas of interest, providing the opportunity for students to participate in research projects either at Rocky or through the REU program.
The chemistry program at Rocky Mountain College will provide you with a solid educational foundation should you choose to end your formal education with a bachelor degree or continue your studies in either graduate or professional school (medical, veterinary, pharmacy, law, etc.). Past graduates of the chemistry program at Rocky Mountain College have excelled in many interesting and diverse careers.
