student on choir trip

Katelyn is not only an avid musician, successful on her own merit as Montana's American Idol in 2005, a jazz singer/songwriter and affectionately known as the "mother of the alto family" in the Rocky Mountain College choir, she is also a top student in the Biology department.

For Katelyn, music is her way of life.  Ask her what she wants to do and she'll tell you  "I want to be working in the medical world and as a recording artist".

Fine Arts > Music > Choir

There is always room to live your passion in the music department. If you want to be a professional opera singer, hot disc jockey, or underpaid jazz singer, our music program will suit your needs.  The program is built on people for whom music is a way of life, whether that is a life of a professional performer or passionate enthusiast.

Concert Choir is a 55-member ensemble dedicated to the highest standard of choral music in literature and performance.  Open to all majors the choir consists of future scientists, economists, teachers, actors, painters, poets, pilots and performers.

Chamber Singers is a highly select ensemble that performs music composed for small groups.  Students in this ensemble take a high degree of ownership, experimenting and shaping their own musical ideas of the repertoire for performance.

Choral ensembles at Rocky are both loved and highly respected throughout the state of Montana and beyond.  One may find us performing at an invitational concert at the Alberta Bair Theater, or St. Patrick’s Co-cathedral in Billings, in the rotunda of the Montana capitol building, or the Stephansdom in Vienna, Austria.  Last summer, choir members traveled to Varna, Bulgaria to perform a joint concert of the Brahms Requiem with a Bulgarian chorus and orchestra.  (Read our blog from Europe tour 2008.)
