Senior Spotlight: Ashley Welborn
Ashley Welborn works hard – on and off the court. As a business management major and an outside hitter for the volleyball team, this senior feels like she has two full-time jobs.
Two jobs that will soon end, after years of hard work.
At the end of Ashley’s student-athlete career, she plans to leave Billings to gain experience.
“Since I grew up here and went to college here, I’d like to get out and see where that leads me,” she says.
Hoping to delve into the world of real estate, Ashley will follow in her mother’s footsteps.
With the end of the volleyball season comes the end of Ashley other job. She feels the experiences gained playing for RMC equal any lesson learned in the classroom.
“I’ve realized it’s not only the kind of player you are, but the kind of person you are – on and off the court,” she says. “Volleyball has helped me accomplish my goals by realizing it’s not who I am, it’s what I do. The person I am is more important."
With only five games left in the regular season, Ashley just wants to enjoy the game.
“I have a much different outlook on these last five games than I have in past years,” she says. “It’s bittersweet for sure, but I’m excited to enter a new part of my life and go on to achieve my dreams.”
Ashley will brush up on her high school basketball skills to play with the RMC women's team her last year before graduating.
Although volleyball is at an end, Ashley’s love for the sport will never quit.
“There are so many ups and downs in sports,” she says, “but nobody can take away how much you love the game and why you play it. I’ve spent years in the gym to get where I am today, and it hasn’t been easy. It hasn’t been a free-ride to get here – volleyball is a full-time job.”
