Coach Alan King is beginning his seventh year at the helm of Rocky Mountain College's cross country programs. This year will mark the fourth year of distance track at RMC. From it's inception, Coach King has been able to develop athletes to new heights which include 16 individual national qualifiers in cross country, two national qualifying relay teams in track, 19 national track qualifiers, 9 top-10 national track finishers, and 2 All-Americans. 

Coach King graduated from Billings West High in 1999, and then ran in college at Dakota Wesleyan University, where he earned his bachelor's of arts in history education. King is currently pursuing his master of arts in kinesiology: physical education emphasis from Fresno Pacific University and will graduate in 2014. During King's college career he competed in several races ranging from the 800 meters to the marathon. Between cross country and track, King qualified for the NAIA national championships seven times and set several school records. He also earned Academic All-American honors. Coach King is USA Level II certified in distance and is actively involved in the local running community. King serves as the Vice President of the Yellowstone Rim Runners and is a member of the Parks Board. He also has an active role as a board member for the Montana Marathon and the Run Turkey Run.  

Today King still competes at a national level and is considered an elite marathoner for the U.S. in the 1/2 marathon and marathon. King has competed as an elite athlete in the Miami Marathon, Chicago Marathon, California International Marathon, and the 2009 USA 1/2 Marathon Championships. His most notable performance was the 2007 California International Marathon, where he placed 9th overall. In 2013, Coach King competed in the Boston Marathon, where he placed 100th overall. He encourages all of his athletes to become lifelong runners as he trains with his athletes on a daily basis in their pursuits of improved performances.

King and his wife, Rebecca, have a five year old son, Hayden.
