All-campus meeting welcomes faculty and staff to RMC
BILLINGS, August 19, 2014 – Leadership of Rocky Mountain College opened the all-campus College meeting August 18 by introducing new faculty and staff to the assembly. The College welcomes new professors in biology, music, environmental management, education, math, and accounting. New staff includes leaders in aviation safety and maintenance, admissions, and residence life.
Executive leadership at the College spoke briefly, including Academic Vice President Steve Gammon, CFO Karla Mongeon-Stewart, VP of Advancement Kelly Edwards, and Director of Athletics Bruce Parker. “Athletics has a seat at Cabinet,” said President Bob Wilmouth, “but nothing will trump what we do in the classroom.”
Wilmouth explained the College’s work on its strategic plan, which will name aspirations and work that needs to be accomplished in the 18 months following its 2015 publication. The process has received excellent input from staff and faculty, he said, and is now developing guiding principles and “how to do things” action items that increase the health of the organization.
He discussed the Cabinet’s epiphanies as the College identifies those principles: “We can’t make bad decisions, so we use the expertise of the team. If we’re going to do things, they must be done right.” The Cabinet is “looking at all our programs from a value standpoint,” he said, to make an RMC education a better value than ever.
For example, value resides in safety, student retention, and community partnerships. Via partnerships, “We can be the link, the connecting focus, for most anything to do with education or health care in the region,” he said.
Wilmouth lauded budget clarity on campus. This year, he pointed out, RMC reached its annual fund giving goal for the first time in five years. The College is also temporarily outsourcing its human resource functions to a team from Avitus Group, to “bring us to a level of service and expertise that we haven’t had in the past,” Wilmouth said.
Wilmouth plans three all-campus meetings each year to assist internal communication at RMC.
