Free RMC Band Concert to roil Babcock Theatre
BILLINGS, March 14, 2014 –The RMC Jazz Ensemble performs in downtown Billings Tuesday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m., featuring tunes from every corner of the jazz canon. From the Great American Songbook to alternative rock and roll, straight-up swing to Latin and funk, the annual spring concert promises something for every taste.
The free performance has a great venue at the Babcock Theatre in downtown Billings, and the public is welcome and encouraged to attend, according to the director of the Jazz Ensemble, Tony Hammond.
Selections at the Tuesday evening bash include classics by Erroll Garner, Radiohead, Charlie Parker, and late RMC Jazz Director Ralph Sappington; and familiar tunes such as “Misty,” “Makin’ Whoopee!”, and “How High the Moon.”
The saxophonist section includes Paige Williams, Shepherd, Mont.; Brandon Haggard, Ashland, Kan.; Jacob Scharbrough, Wieser, Idaho; William Krol-Sinclair, Boston, Mass.; and Daniel Salveson, Laurel, Mont.
Brass includes trumpets Dixie Park, Laurel, Mont.; Leo Steiner, Denver, Col.; Daniel Garneau, Atlanta, Ga.; and Koree MacMurdie, Whitehall, Mont.; and trombones Teresa Sarkela, Laurel, Mont.; and director Tony Hammond, Billings, Mont.
The rhythm section includes bassist Brendan Fox of Helena, Mont.; keyboardist Tiffany Personett of Billings, Mont.; guitarist Ramón Ochoa of Everett, Wash.; and Stephen Henning of Laurel, Mont., who handles the drumset.
