RMC Celebrates 2014 Homecoming Week October 20-26

Rocky Mountain College is celebrating its 2014 Homecoming the week of October 20-26. The week will be full of a wide variety of activities on the RMC campus, ranging from a renowned author's keynote address to various sporting events. 

Monday, October 20, will officially kick off Homecoming week with “Rocky Mania” from 3:00-6:00 p.m. across campus. Everyone is encouraged to wear or create their own Rocky spirit gear and join in on some friendly competitions, eat chicken wings, and enjoy ice cream sundaes in Fraley Lounge. 

The Powder Puff Football Game for students vs. faculty/staff will be held on Tuesday, October 21, at 4:00 p.m. on the RMC Green, followed by dinner in the cafeteria in the Bair Family Student Center. 

On Thursday, October 23, renowned author Sherman Alexie will be giving the keynote address for the 2014 Common Read from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Fortin Education Center. Alexie will be discussing his 2007 novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. Admission is free and open to the public. The floor of the gym will be ticketed seating for members of the RMC community, and the bleachers will be available for general admission and do not require a ticket. 

Friday, October 24, will begin with the RMC men's soccer team playing against Westminster at Wendy's Field from 3:30-4:30 p.m. 

Friday evening, the RMC volleyball team will be competing against MSU Northern at the Fortin Education Center from 7:00-8:30 p.m. After the game is over, there will be a Battlin' Bear Pep Rally in the Tech parking lot at 8:30 p.m., which will include campfires, food, music, and games.

There will be a wide variety of events held on Saturday, October 25. The RMC parking lot will open at 9:00 a.m. for those wishing to participate in tailgate activities prior to the football game at Herb Klindt Field. The tailgate will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will include music, games, food, and various family-friendly activities.

From 11:30-12:30 p.m. during the Rocky tailgate, the RMC Cheerleaders will be doing a Calendar Signing/Meet and Greet. This will provide an opportunity to purchase the 2014/2015 RMC Cheerleader Calendar for $15 and meet the cheerleaders of RMC.

Also during the tailgate, the RMC Bears & Cubs mentoring program will be revealing their new logo, and will also be selling T-shirts, sweatshirts, and tote bags. All proceeds will go toward the RMC Bears & Cubs program, which is part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Through the Bears & Cubs program, RMC students help mentor elementary students from the Billings area. 

At 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, the RMC Battlin' Bears will kick off in the 2014 Homecoming game against the University of Montana Western.

During the game, RMC will have the highly anticipated unveiling of its new and improved bear mascot. The following week, RMC is partnering with Wendy’s to launch a Mascot Naming Competition to rename the mascot. 

Following the football game, the RMC JV volleyball team will compete against the University of Great Falls at 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Fortin Education Center. 

Saturday night will end with a “Masquerade and Arabian Dance” from 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. on Tyler Green under a heated tent. Everyone is invited to come in either masquerade or Arabian attire.

Homecoming 2014 week will conclude with a special evening of worship held on Sunday, October 26, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel, which is in the lower level of the Bair Family Student Center Chapel. The service will include music by local jazz musicians, and everyone is invited to bring their instruments of choice for a jam session.
