Parker named to newly formed NAIA board of directors

BILLINGS, September 12, 2014 – NAIA Athletics Director’s Association (ADA) president Kevin Steele announced today the formation of the association’s first-ever Board of Directors.

The ADA Board of Directors includes one representative from each NAIA conference including the Association of Independent Institutions (AII).

The Board of Directors along with ADA officers – Steele (president), Angie Fincannon (vice president), Darin Wilson (secretary), and Jeff Bain (past president) – will be tasked with promoting the ADA within conferences, working to provide professional development opportunities, and mentoring for ADA members as well as recognizing outstanding achievements by NAIA athletic directors.

“The creation of the Board of Directors is the result of several months of intensive work done by the ADA officers and an advisory committee (composed of Bruce Parker of Rocky Mountain College, Jim Abbott of Oklahoma City University, Bob Wilson of Vanguard University, and Matt Sayre of Southern Oregon University) to reshape the direction the direction and purpose of the NAIA ADA,” Steele said.

“We are moving toward an organization that really serves, promotes, and educates NAIA athletic directors and the creation of this board is an obvious step in this effort,” he added.

Parker, who has served on several national committees during his 12 years as an NAIA athletic director, is excited about his newest national commitment.

“It is quite an honor to be associated with this group of athletic directors from across the country and to represent the Frontier Conference,” said Parker, the director of athletics at Rocky Mountain College. “This is a group that will get things done on a local, state, regional, and national level. I’m really excited to roll up my sleeves and help create some positive change for collegiate athletics.”

The immediate work of the Board of Directors will occur in an ad hoc advisory capacity. The full implementation of the Board and other changes in the ADA will be discussed at the next business meeting of the ADA, which will occur at the NAIA Convention in April 2015.
