Three Battlin’ Bears Qualify for NAIA National Championships in Cross Country
BILLINGS, Mont. – November 16, 2016 – Following a strong performance in the Frontier Conference Championships, three student-athletes from the Rocky Mountain College Cross Country team will be competing in this Saturday’s NAIA National Championship meet.
Freshman Benson Koesch (Bomet, Kenya) took second place in the Men’s Frontier Conference Championships held in Helena, Mont., last week with a time of 25:05 on the 8-kilometer course. In the women’s race, senior Mackenzie O’Dore (Joliet, Mont.) placed eighth with a time of 19:19 on the 5-kilometer course. Freshman Courtney Hallock (Laurel, Mont.) finished immediately behind O’Dore with a time of 19:20.
The NAIA National Championship meet will be held at the North Farm Cross Country Course in Elsah, Ill., on Saturday, November 19. The women’s race will begin at 10:30 a.m., CST, and the men’s race will begin at 11:30 a.m.
“A lot of our runners do not know how fast they are yet,” Head Coach Mike McLean said. “There will be strong winds on Saturday, but I am excited to see how we compete on a lower-altitude course. This will be a great experience – especially for the two freshman who will get a chance to compete at the highest level very early in their careers.”
