Assistant Professor of Geology

The Geology Program at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana, invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position starting August 1st, 2025. The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in Geosciences/Earth Sciences (or ABO and be close to completing .. their dissertation at the time of application). The position requires a teaching load of 12 credits each semester (4/4), for a total of 24 credit hours per academic year, and candidates with liberal arts teaching experience are preferred. Courses that need to be taught include structural geology and petrology courses, as well as fundamental geology, and courses within the candidate’s sub-field of expertise. Candidates with interest and/or experience in teaching GIS courses are preferred. Field-based instruction is expected, and candidates with a strong record of research activities involving undergraduate students are especially encouraged. The successful candidate will support and carry out the mission of the college as well as demonstrate a commitment to developing and enhancing a culture of rigor, excellence, and achievement. The start date for the position is August 1, 2025. The salary range starts in the mid-$50,000s, and is commensurate with experience.

The Geology Program at Rocky Mountain College is dynamic and current faculty have active and expanding research projects currently underway in Montana and beyond that involve undergraduate students.
