Why UAS at Rocky Mountain College

Rocky Mountain College has a rich tradition of aviation education—and is proud to launch the comprehensive Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) major, beginning Fall 2025. Building on years of offering a UAS minor and shaped by input from industry leaders and research into peer programs, this new major empowers you with the skills, confidence, and professional foundation for tomorrow’s drone careers.

What Sets Our Program Apart

Aviation Strength, Broader Vision: Benefit from RMC’s deep backgrounds in aviation and business, merged with a powerful liberal arts education.

Actionable Learning, Immediate Impact: Develop your abilities through mission planning, data collection, and drone operations—not just in the classroom, but out in the field.

Community Collaboration: Students in the RMC Drone Club have provided mapping support for organizations like the Montana Audubon Center, using college-owned drones to assist with environmental projects on Norm’s Island.

Capstone Project: You’ll work directly with a client in the community, using advanced drone payloads and technology, analyzing data, and delivering findings and recommendations—building a professional project portfolio before graduation.

Career Flexibility: Prepare for roles in agriculture, infrastructure, defense, environmental science, business, creative industries, and more.

“To excel in this dynamic and competitive field, you need more than certification. RMC’s UAS program helps you build expertise, critical thinking, and communication skills—so you stand out long after graduation.”

— Matt Prinkki, Assistant Professor of Aviation & Head of UAS Program
