The Krieg Collection


The Krieg Memorial Western History Collection was generously donated to RMC Library by the Krieg family in memorial of Frederick C. Krieg, who began the collection. It contains more than 900 books, pamphlets, magazines and brochures of interest to scholars of the history of the West and focuses in particular upon Montana. The collection features many rare and historical items.

Specific research topics include: Lewis and Clark, the fur trade and the explorations of the fur traders. the Indian Wars including the Bozeman Trail, the Custer battle and the flight of the Nez Perce, the Vigilantes, the art of Charlie Russell and other western artists, early Billings history, and many others.

Items are available for use in the library and can be perused on the lower level of the building or digitally in our online catalog.
