Rocky Mountain College Announces First-of-Its-Kind Early Admission Pathway to Competitive Graduate Health Programs

BILLINGS, Mont. — Rocky Mountain College is proud to announce the launch of a new Early Admission Program (EAP) that creates a direct, structured pathway from an RMC bachelor’s degree into highly competitive graduate health programs.

This program is the first of its kind in Montana and the broader Rocky Mountain region. It is built for high school seniors and transfer students who are already drawn to careers in medicine, veterinary medicine, physician assistant (PA) practice, and occupational therapy (OT)—and who want a clear, realistic plan from their first day on campus.

Admission to these graduate programs is intensely competitive for traditional applicants, with acceptance rates often dropping into the single digits—sometimes as low as 5% per year. For many qualified students on the traditional path, that means years of uncertainty, repeated application cycles, and significant emotional and financial strain.

Our Early Admission Program changes that equation. Qualified students can secure early—provisional or guaranteed—admission to one of four graduate pathways while completing their undergraduate studies at RMC:

  • Rocky Mountain College – Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD)
  • Rocky Mountain College – Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS)
  • Rocky Vista University – Montana College of Osteopathic Medicine (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, DO)
  • Rocky Vista University – proposed College of Veterinary Medicine (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, DVM)*

*Pending successful approval for the proposed program.

These pathways are particularly powerful for students pursuing a biology major, pre‑med major, or other health major who are focused on medical school, physician careers, OT, PA, or veterinary roles and want to compete for seats that are often limited to a small percentage of applicants nationwide.

A New Model for Montana’s Health Workforce

Montana and many rural communities in the Rocky Mountain region face persistent shortages of physicians, physician assistants, occupational therapists, and other health professionals. These shortages are especially acute in rural and underserved areas, where distance, limited access, and provider turnover can all hinder patient care.

Our Early Admission Program is one way Rocky Mountain College is answering that challenge. By linking our undergraduate programs—especially our biology, pre‑med, and health majors—with clearly defined graduate seats, we are:

  • Encouraging Montana students and regional students to begin their pre‑med, pre‑PA, pre‑OT, or pre‑veterinary journey here at RMC.
  • Providing a transparent, step‑by‑step plan for admission into medical school, PA school, OT programs, and veterinary programs that are otherwise extremely competitive.
  • Giving qualified students a way to secure a future seat now, rather than competing year after year in applicant pools with acceptance rates around 5–10%.
  • Strengthening the pipeline of health professionals prepared to serve rural healthcare settings and underserved populations across the state and region.

Our graduate partners share a mission to improve access to quality care in frontier and rural communities. This Early Admission Program is a direct expression of that mission.

How the Early Admission Program Works

The EAP is open to:

  • – High school seniors who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree at Rocky Mountain College.
  • – Transfer students with at least 60 semester credits remaining at RMC.

Students first apply and are admitted to Rocky Mountain College. Then they complete a supplemental Early Admission Program application, indicating their preferred graduate pathway and submitting a personal statement and letter of recommendation. Selected applicants are invited to interview, and offers are made on a rolling basis until each pathway’s seats are filled.

Once admitted to the EAP, students receive:

Early admission status (provisional or guaranteed, depending on the program) to one of the partnered graduate programs—programs where traditional applicants face long odds and highly selective review.

A recommended four‑year academic plan aligned with their chosen path—whether that is a biology major, pre‑med major, or other health major.

Dedicated advising and mentoring from faculty who understand the admissions standards for medical school, PA programs, OT programs, and veterinary programs.

Eligibility for up to $5,000 per year in EAP Health Career Scholarships during undergraduate study at RMC (program-specific requirements apply).

Instead of navigating complex prerequisites, tests, and experiences on their own—and entering national applicant pools where only a small percentage are admitted—students move through a guided sequence of courses, clinical experiences, shadowing, and patient-care hours that match the expectations of their intended graduate program.

In a landscape where acceptance rates can be as low as 5%, the chance to secure an early seat is a significant advantage.

Four Graduate Pathways, One Shared Commitment

Each track within the Early Admission Program has its own academic and experiential requirements, reflecting the rigor of the profession. All four share a common commitment: preparing graduates who are ready to serve rural communities and underserved populations in Montana and the Rocky Mountain region.

Veterinary Medicine

(DVM – Rocky Vista University, proposed College of Veterinary Medicine)*

This pathway offers provisional admission to the proposed RVU College of Veterinary Medicine for students who complete a rigorous science curriculum at RMC.*

*Enrollment is contingent on final approvals for the proposed veterinary program.

Osteopathic Medical School

(DO – Rocky Vista University, Montana College of Osteopathic Medicine)

This track provides early, provisional admission to RVU’s Montana College of Osteopathic Medicine for students who meet defined GPA, science coursework, and professionalism standards.

Master of Physician Assistant Studies

(MPAS – Rocky Mountain College)

The EAP–MPAS pathway provides a guaranteed seat in RMC’s Physician Assistant (PA) program for students who fulfill course, GPA, and patient-care experience requirements.

Occupational Therapy Doctorate

(OTD – Rocky Mountain College)

The EAP–OTD track provides a guaranteed seat in RMC’s Occupational Therapy Doctorate program for students who meet prerequisite, GPA, and professionalism standards.

Why This Matters for Students and Families

For many families, planning for medical school, physician assistant (PA) programs, occupational therapy (OT) programs, or veterinary school can be overwhelming. They know that admission is highly selective—sometimes admitting only a small fraction of applicants each year—and they want assurance that a bachelor’s degree in a biology major, pre‑med major, or other health major will translate into real opportunities.

This Early Admission Program answers that concern in several ways:

By connecting biology majors, pre‑med majors, and other health majors at RMC with guaranteed or provisional graduate seats, we are not only helping students plan their futures—we are also investing in the health of Montana’s communities.

A Commitment to Montana and the Rocky Mountain Region

Rocky Mountain College views this Early Admission Program as a long‑term commitment to the people of our state and region.

We are:

  • Partnering with institutions that share our vision for rural and community‑based care.
  • Giving students with a calling to serve—whether as physicians, PAs, OTs, or veterinarians—a realistic, structured path into programs that are otherwise extremely difficult to enter.
  • Aligning our undergraduate and graduate offerings with the practical needs of Montana’s rural healthcare landscape and underserved populations.
Rocky Mountain College is honored to lead this work in Montana—uniting a student‑centered bachelor’s degree experience with clear, mission‑driven pathways into medicine, veterinary medicine, physician assistant practice, and occupational therapy in service of our rural and underserved communities.
