Alumni R.J. Kost owes RMC to current success

R. J. Kost's educational journey at Rocky Mountain College launched him into a successful career spanning decades. He completed his double major in mathematics and physical education/health at RMC in 1975, where he actively engaged in football and weightlifting.

Post-graduation, Mr. Kost pursued his Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wyoming. Until his retirement in 2018, he held the position of Curriculum Coordinator for Park County School District #1 in Wyoming.

“Playing football and competing in competitive Weightlifting were both highlights of my time at Rocky along with the friends I made and still have to this day,” said Mr. Kost. “My education helped me be successful as a teacher for 31 years and as the Curriculum Coordinator for 12 years.”

Mr. Kost's accomplishments are remarkable, including serving as the senator for District #19 in Wyoming from 2019-2022 and his 2023 appointment to the State Board of Education. Currently, he holds various prominent positions such as Powell Valley Healthcare Board President, Powell Schools Federal Credit Union President, and member of several influential boards and groups.

“In my 43 years of being involved with education and students, I value what I learned at Rocky to develop the relationships and methods of educating students,” Mr. Kost said. “I always look back on the time I spent at Rocky as a great foundation and learning environment for a person from a small school in Wyoming.”
