Rocky Women Defend Freeski National Title; Rocky Men Take Third to Conclude a Shortened USCSA National Championship Meet

MAMMOTH, Calif.- While unprecedented weather conditions heavily impacted the competition schedule, the Rocky Ski Racing team took advantage of their opportunities in Mammoth as the women swept the Alpine and Freeski titles, while the men placed top three in the Alpine and Freeski.

On the women’s side, only the Skier-cross was able to be completed due to weather conditions, in which the Battlin’ Bears took first, highlighted by an individual championship by Synne Gaustad Kvinlog. The combined Freeski scoring is adjusted by removing athletes who are not registered and seeded for at least 50% of competitions, per USCSA Individual Scoring Rule 7.4.5.2.2. This gave the Battlin’ Bears a back-to-back championship in the team Freeski with a time-adjusted score of 191.61.

Sara Akerstrom finished first in the individual combined score, with an adjusted time of 59.51. Emma Hiebert finished third with an adjusted time of 61.70 and Cora Moriarty finished in seventh with an adjusted time of 70.40.

On the men’s side, the Skier-cross and Slopestyle competitions were completed and added into the combined award, with Friday’s RailJam being canceled. The Battlin’ Bears placed in third place with 10 adjusted place points. University of Colorado Boulder took the team title with only three combined adjusted place points.

Jeppe Holm Raggan led the way for the Battlin’ Bears in the freeski, finishing 10th individually with 30 total adjusted place points. Daniel Larriu finished closely behind in 12th with 36 total adjusted place points. Jacob Drake finished in 18th place, Dylan Stutzke finished in 39th, and Austin Johnson finished in 46th.

The Battlin’ Bears finished the shortened week of competition with three national titles and three individual champions. Rocky also earned four First-Team All-Americans and four Second Team All-Americans combined.
