Gaustad Kvinlog and Sehlberg Claim Individual National Championships; Rocky Women Win Slalom and Skier-Cross Titles at USCSA National Championships Thursday

MAMMOTH, Calif.- Rocky Women’s Ski earned national titles Thursday in the Women’s Slalom and Skier-cross, as the Rocky men took second place in the Men’s Slalom, paced by Alexander Sehlberg and Synne Gaustad Kvinlog’s individual victories.

The postponed Women’s Slalom was pushed to a one run competition. Hilde Iren Sato led the way for the Battlin’ Bears, finishing in second place with a time of 45.44 seconds. Synne Gaustad Kvinlog was the other top-10 finisher for Rocky, finishing in sixth place with a time of 47.03 seconds. Bergitte Varne finished in 12th place with a time of 48.31 seconds, Sofia Brustia finished in 21st with a time of 49.07 seconds, and Sydney Weaver finished in 34th with a time of 51.33 seconds. The Rocky Women took home the national championship with a total team time of 2:20.78.

The Men’s Slalom was also a one run competition. Alexander Sehlberg took home the individual title with a time of 42.53 seconds. Zachary Bion was the next fastest Battlin’ Bear, finishing in 14th place with a time of 46.16 seconds. Gusten Berglund finished in 19th with a time of 46.49 seconds and Jeppe Holm Raggan finished in 32nd with a time of 47.90. Castleton University finished in first place in the Men’s Slalom with a total time of 134.01, ahead of Rocky’s 135.18 total.

The Rocky women defended their title in the Women’s Skier-cross from a year ago, headlined by Synne Gaustad Kvinlog taking the individual title with a time of 56.32 seconds. Sydney Weaver, last year’s Skier-cross champion, and Sara Akerstrom also finished within the top-10, as Weaver finished in third place with a time of 57.60 seconds, while Akerstrom finished in seventh place with a time of 59.51 seconds. Emma Hiebert finished in 16th with a time of 1:01.70 and Cora Moriarty finished in 34th with a time of 1:10.40 to round out the Rocky competitors. The Battlin’ Bears took home the team victory with a total time of 173.43.

In the Men’s SlopeStyle, the Battlin’ Bears were led by a 24th place finish by Jeppe Holm Raggan, who finished with a score of 40. Dylan Stutzke finished right behind Holm Raggan, tying for 26th with a score of 39. Jacob Drake finished in 30th with a score of 35, Daniel Larriu finished in 32nd with a score of 34, and Austin Johnson finished in 35th with a final score of 31. The Battlin’ Bears finished in 7th overall in the team with 80 place points. University of Nevada finished first with a team place score of 13.

The Men’s and Women’s Giant Slalom, which was scheduled for Thursday morning, has been canceled due to weather conditions. The Men’s and Women’s RailJam are still scheduled to compete on Friday.
